Membership Tiers
Associate Member
Body
- Residents, fellows, post-doctoral fellows, and doctoral students in good standing
- Must have a current Teaching Academy member as a sponsor and must submit a letter of support
- Must present an education project at a Teaching Academy event
- Education project proposals are required at the time of application
- Larner faculty, including early career and new-to-Larner faculty members
- New Assistant Professors will have extra support and targeted communication about attending Teaching Academy events and a 2-year time limit to reapply at the Member level
- Engagement and evidence of excellence in 1 or more educational scholarship domains with emerging evidence of Quantity, Quality, and Engagement
Member

- Engagement and evidence of excellence in 1 or more educational scholarship domains with solid evidence of Quantity, Quality, and Engagement
Expert Teacher
Body
- Larner Faculty
- Engagement and evidence of excellence 2 or more educational scholarship domains with strong evidence of Quantity, Quality, and Engagement
- Additional active participation within the academy (e.g., mentoring, workshops, etc.)
- Regional and/or national recognition as an educator
Distinguished Educator

- Engagement and evidence of excellence in 3 or more educational scholarship domains with extensive evidence of Quantity, Quality, and Engagement
- Additional active participation within the academy (e.g., mentoring, workshops, etc.)
- Regional, national, and/or international recognition as an educator
Application Process

- Preparation and submission of a Teaching Portfolio and supporting materials. See the Application Instructions in the Application Materials tab below to get started
- The fall application cycle deadline is October 1, and the spring application cycle deadline is April 1. Resident/fellow/postdoc Associate Member applications will be considered on a rolling basis
- Consultations for portfolio preparation are available. Please contact the Teaching Academy with questions or consultation requests
- Rigorous, criteria-based peer review by
- Internal Review Committee and
- External Review of Distinguished Educator applicants (consisting of members of established Teaching Academies at other institutions)
- Submit your Teaching Portfolio to Teaching.Academy@med.uvm.edu by the spring or fall deadlines
- Resident/fellow/postdoc Associate Member application submissions will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Note: if you do not receive a confirmation email, please follow up

- Portfolio workshops will be held the first Wednesday of the month at 12pm via Zoom to assist in completing the Teaching Portfolio. For more information, contact Teaching.Academy@med.uvm.edu

Member Renewal
Body
Member Renewals are requested every five years. You may choose to renew at your current membership level or take this opportunity to apply at a higher level. Renewals are accepted and reviewed twice a year. Spring deadline, April 1st. Fall deadline, October 1st.
Renewal Packet Requirements
To renew at the same level:
- You will be sent a link to complete a Member Renewal Form which includes
- A brief statement describing your contributions to the Teaching Academy;
- Ideas for future participation and service;
- 3-5 highlights related to the Educational Scholarship Domain(s) you work in;
- Any activities that contributed to inclusive excellence related to your work as an educator, including professional development courses; relevant literature read; changes made to your teaching, assessment, mentoring, etc. *If you find that your educational scholarship domains have changed, please make a note in your statement.
- You will also be required to submit an updated Larner CV. You can upload your CV within the Member Renewal Form. Or email your CV to Teaching.Academy@med.uvm.edu
To renew at a higher level of membership, please provide:
- Updated portfolio application, including cover letter and updated CV in standardized LCOM format. *You have the option to build on your existing portfolio file or download the updated file. If you find that your educational scholarship domains have changed, please be sure to make note of it in your statement of intent.
