The Teaching Academy has reached a milestone!  We are celebrating a decade of recognizing educators and supporting teaching, learning, assessment, and educational scholarship at the Larner College of Medicine. While we are excited to celebrate, we are also ready to study the outcomes of the first ten years.

Translating Learning into Practice: Evidence-Based Strategies for Knowledge Transfer

Cynthia Nebel, Ph.D.
Director of Learning Services, St. Louis University School of Medicine

Within the health professions, it is critical that learners not only retain new knowledge, but that they be able to apply that knowledge to and across patient cases. Transfer is difficult for novice learners, but in this talk, Dr. Nebel will discuss several strategies that can be used in didactic and clinical settings to improve the transfer of knowledge for learners, trainees, and in continuing professional development.

Inaugural members of the Teaching Academy will reunite with current members and Larner College of Medicine leadership for a special luncheon in the Hoehl Gallery on Friday, May 9, 12:00 pm. Remarks will begin at approximately 12:30 pm.

10th Anniversary Educational Scholarship Award: Due May 1

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Teaching Academy, a special award, up to $20,000 for two years, will be presented to foster innovation and improvement in educational scholarship.

For the past decade, the Teaching Academy has been dedicated to advancing educational excellence, innovation, and scholarship. Our mission is to support educators in their pursuit of teaching excellence and professional growth while fostering a collaborative community committed to improving medical education.

Over the past ten years, we have:

  • Supported Educator Development – Providing mentorship, resources, and professional development opportunities.
  • Advanced Educational Innovation – Encouraging new approaches to teaching and learning.
  • Promoted Scholarship in Education – Supporting faculty in research and dissemination of best practices.
  • Built a Strong Community – Connecting educators to share knowledge, collaborate, and inspire one another.

As we celebrate this milestone, we reflect on the impact of our shared efforts and look forward to the continued advancement of medical education.
