The Teaching Academy sustains and supports an interdisciplinary community of educators who value the scholarship of teaching and learning.

Curriculum Development and Educational Scholarship Award

Details

Body

This is an award to fund projects that foster innovation and improvement in teaching, learning, and educational scholarship.

Eligibility

Body
  • The PI must be a member of the Teaching Academy. Non-members may participate as collaborators.
  • Proposals must be submitted as a single PDF file by midnight May 1, 2025.
  • Awardee(s) will be contacted by June 30. Award-supported activities will begin immediately.
  • A maximum of three $10,000 will be awarded.

Required Proposal Components

  • Cover page with PI name, collaborator names, title, and contact information.
  • A two-page description of the proposed project, including a timeline for one-year completion (July 1-June 30).
  • References, not included in the two-page description.
  • A one-page statement of interest, including goal, anticipated outcomes, and plan for evaluation and dissemination.
  • Evaluation Plan describing how the innovation or curriculum will be evaluated.
  • Budget for salary support and project resources (use attached template). Proposals are strengthened by evidence of shared costs by departments.
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV) for each contributor.
  • Two letters of support describing the applicant’s qualifications to undertake the project and likelihood of completion. One of the letters should be from the candidate’s chair, division chief, or supervisor. NOTE: If the proposal involves a curricular innovation, applicants are advised to include a brief statement of support from the course/clerkship/program director or other administrator (e.g., Director of the Simulation Lab, Assistant Dean for the Foundations Level; Associate Dean for Students).

Teaching Academy 10th Anniversary Educational Scholarship Award

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Teaching Academy, a special award, up to $20,000 for two years, will be presented to foster innovation and improvement in educational scholarship.

  • The PI must be a member of the Teaching Academy. Non-members may participate as collaborators.
  • Proposals must be submitted as a single PDF file by midnight May 1, 2025.
  • Awardee(s) will be contacted by June 30. Award-supported activities will begin immediately.
  • A maximum of $20,000 per year, for two years, for up to $40,000.

Travel Award

The Teaching Academy grants travel awards to support member travel to present educational scholarship or attend professional development events related to the mission of the Teaching Academy.

Eligibility

Body
  • Any LCOM Teaching Academy member. Preference will be given to those who will present scholarly work at the conference or meeting, or participate in a fellowship-type program.
  • A maximum of $1000 per award.
  • Applications must be submitted by midnight May 1.
  • Awardee(s) will be contacted by June 30.
  • Travel or virtual conference registration must be completed between July 1 and June 30.

Publication Stipend

Body

The Teaching Academy Publication Stipend is dedicated to helping Members defray publication costs of up to $500 for manuscripts on healthcare or medical education-related topics accepted for publication in education journals or education-focused sections of relevant academic journals. Application accepted on a rolling basis.

Eligibility

  • Any LCOM Teaching Academy member. Must have a manuscript accepted for publication in a healthcare/medical education journal or education-focused section of a relevant academic journal.
  • A maximum of $500 will be awarded. Funds are available on a first come, first serve basis.
  • Applicants will receive a decision within 30 days of submission.
  • You are required to add the following statement acknowledging the support of the Teaching Academy. “Publication was supported by The Teaching Academy, Larner College of Medicine at the University of Vermont”
