Fall is here—and Vermont is showing off. The colors, the crisp air, and the buzz of a new semester make this such a special time to be on campus. I’m thrilled to be joining the University of Vermont community for my first academic year opening as Chief Information Officer.
There’s something truly special about autumn in Vermont—the changing leaves, the energy of new beginnings, and the shared sense of purpose that comes with a fresh semester. I’m honored to be part of this incredible community and excited for the journey ahead.
As we begin the semester, I want to share a few updates and reminders from our Enterprise Services Technology (ETS) team:
🌱 ETS Plan Reminder
In May, we released the 2025-2026 ETS plan—a directional guide shaped by extensive feedback from our community. While not intended to be a broad strategic plan for ETS, it begins to steer the ship toward our future and will dovetail with the university’s new strategic plan. I wanted to spotlight a few key efforts underway that align with the ETS plan.
🧱 Pillar One: A Focus on Foundations
A review of our policies and procedures is underway to improve clarity and alignment across our work.
A discovery process is underway for a potential replacement of Footprints. We’re in the early stages, with demos coming soon.
A dedicated team is partnering with the bookstore to create a more fluid procurement and support experience.
🤝 Pillar Two: Governance and Partnerships
Please join me in welcoming Joe Pawlaczyk as our new Director of Client Services. Joe is working closely with the client services team and will be responsible for helping build bridges between ETS and partners across the university. Please learn more about Joe here.
We want to also welcome all our new hires to the ETS team.
We’re committed to showing up, listening, and partnering. You can always reach us: ETS Contact
🚀 Pillar Three: Strategic and Digital Transformation
The university has launched three exciting new efforts:
• Data Governance Council
• Catamount Leap
• AI Leadership Commitment
🔐 Pillar Four: Securing Our Future and Expanding Opportunity
We’re launching a research enclaves project to enhance our security posture. In the coming months, we are launching a secure computing environment to support research projects with higher data security requirements. Many federal funding agencies now mandate that computing and storage systems meet federal security standards, and this new secure enclave will enhance our security posture and comply with federal requirements.
Stay tuned for new training opportunities and service rollouts to support enterprise security across the university.
The Vermont Advanced Computing Center and ETS are building a major new GPU high-performance computing cluster called IceCore, funded by the NSF. IceCore will enable research of national significance, bring state-of-the-art computational capabilities to UVM, and is built to support artificial intelligence and massively parallel processing.
I’m energized by the work ahead and grateful to be part of this community. Please don’t hesitate to reach out—my door is open, and I’d love to hear from you. You can contact me anytime at uvmcio@uvm.edu.
Here’s to a great semester!
Warmly,
Dr. Kellie Campbell
