4-H’ers from four counties met on the University of Vermont (UVM) campus in Burlington on March 14 for the 2025 Chittenden County Invitational 4-H Horse Quiz Bowl.
The annual competition, hosted by Chittenden County 4-H, attracted 18 participants from Chittenden, Franklin, Lamoille and Washington Counties. It consisted of several buzzer rounds with different questions for each age group.
These covered a diverse range of topics including horse breeds, gaits, feeds and nutrition, anatomy, equine diseases, famous horses and the Vermont 4-H horse program. Points were awarded to the first competitor to buzz in with the correct answer.
Results were as follows:
- 8- and 9-year-olds: Fiona Adams, Milton (first); Avery Halverson, Georgia (second)

- 10- and 11-year-olds: Saige Prisco, Milton (first); Nora Kidder, Cambridge (second); Avery Minor, Fairfax (third); Ian Kascha-Hare, Milton (fourth); Grace Peterson, Essex (fifth); Catherine Baker, Milton (sixth)

- 12- to 18-year-olds: Jane Curry, Burlington (first); Emma Babyak (second) and Claire Romano (third), both from Fairfax; Kinzi Grindle, St. Albans (fourth); Josie Kascha-Hare, Milton (fifth); Hallee Dixon, Colchester (sixth); Elizabeth Stinton, Northfield (seventh); Aubri Richards, Fairfax (eighth); Lily Key, Hinesburg (ninth); Maeve LaBossiere, Westford (tenth)

Mary Fay, Westford, organized the competition, which also provided valuable practice for participants planning to enter the annual State 4-H Horse Quiz Bowl, April 12 in Rutland. She was assisted by Martha Blades, Jericho, who served as registrar and scorekeeper. Moderators were Amanda Gifford and Mikayla Tobey, both from Fairfax; Jaimie Grindle, St. Albans; and Martha Manning, UVM Extension 4-H educator for Franklin and Grand Isle counties.
