A dozen bovine-savvy 4-H’ers from Orange and Windsor Counties competed in the 2025 Central and Southeastern Regional 4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl, held March 2 at Vermont State University in Randolph Center.
The competition consisted of a written exam and two buzzer rounds of 20 questions each covering a range of topics including calf raising, feeds and forages, herd health, anatomy, reproduction and dairy breeds, among others. Scores for both were combined to determine placements.
In addition to receiving ribbons for their placements, every 4-H’er who competed in quiz bowl had their choice of prizes provided by the Orange County 4-H Foundation. These included feed buckets, brushes, rope halters and 4-H- branded items.
Results were as follows:
- Seniors (ages 14 to 18): Bryn Nelson, Ryegate, Rambling Rivers 4-H Club (first); Sylvia Johnson Tunbridge, Clever Clovers 4-H Club (second); Bee Wilbur, North Hartland, Hartland Cattle Club (third); Austin Washburn Bethel, Middle Branch 4-H Club (four); Ashton Perkins, North Pomfret, Hartland Cattle Club (fifth); Dani Flint, South Royalton, Middle Branch 4-H Club (sixth); Whitney McClain, Tunbridge, Clever Clovers 4-H Club (seventh)
- Juniors (ages 11 to 13): Ewan Nelson, Ryegate, Rambling Rivers 4-H Club (first); Sophie Fors, Bethel, Middle Branch 4-H Club (second); Thomas Williams, Randolph Center, Middle Branch 4-H Club (third)
- Beginners (ages 8 to 10): Lucy Angell, South Royalton, Middle Branch 4-H Club (first); Claire Washburn, Bethel, Middle Branch 4-H Club (second)



The quiz bowl was organized by University of Vermont Extension 4-H Educators Molly McFaun and Camille Kauffman. Volunteers were Jen Thygesen, Tunbridge; Judy Vaughan, Newbury; and Amy Vaughan, South Ryegate, a member of the 2023 Vermont 4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl team.
