Program Overview

The B.A. in music offers students the opportunity to study performance, composition, theory, and technology in a liberal arts setting. Students learn to understand and appreciate music as an art form and as a reflection of deeper cultural contexts. Through playing, singing, and reading music, they expand the musical vocabulary and imagination that enable them to work independently and develop the ability for deeper study.

This degree is ideal for a double major within the College of Arts and Sciences, or a dual degree with one of UVM’s other Colleges.

Our alumni have gone on to pursue postgraduate studies in music (Boston University, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, New England Conservatory of Music) or perform, produce, compose, and teach music.

Students pursuing this degree are required to choose a concentration: Classical Performance, Jazz Studies, Composition and Literature, or Technology and Business (see Concentrations tab).
