As a business school with deep expertise in the study and teaching of sustainable and family business, we are proud to announce the publication of a new book featuring several Grossman faculty and alumni. The book: Pioneering Family Firms' Sustainable Development Strategies  edited by Professor Pramodita Sharma, the Schlesinger-Grossman Endowed Chair in Family Business in the Grossman School of Business and Sanjay Sharma, Dean and Professor of Management in the Grossman School of Business, describes the sustainable development journey of fifteen business families committed to using their enterprises as a force of societal good. In turn, each family reaps benefits of high economic returns, while contributing to society and environment.

The fifteen family businesses, established between 1860 to 1966, are located in Asia, Europe, North America and Oceania, with several more than 100 years old.

While size, industry, and locations vary, all these business families share a deep seated commitment towards sustainable development, control over strategic decision-making in their firms and trans-generational continuity intentions. Family values embed their enterprises with a strong sense of purpose to achieve their chosen sustainable development goals. Professionalized systems and processes foster the development of capabilities, and partnerships with a variety of stakeholders ensure the simultaneous achievement of social, environmental and profitability goals.

Several Grossman faculty and alumni contributed to the book including recent Sustainable Innovation MBA graduates Alyssa Schuetz and Alexa Steiner, plus faculty members Professor Rocki-Lee DeWitt, Professor Stu Hart, Professor Sanjay Sharma, and Professor Pramodita Sharma.
