Beta Gamma Sigma, an international honors society for business students, has recognized the University of Vermont, Grossman School of Business chapter as the winner of Beta Gamma Sigma’s 2021 Bronze Outstanding Chapter Award.
The University of Vermont Beta Gamma Sigma chapter was selected as the winner of this award out of more than 615 global chapters found in AACSB-accredited schools in 38 countries. The UVM chapter is led by president, Professor Barbara Arel, and chapter advisor Joanne Pencak, and now includes more than eight hundred and twenty members.
“We are proud of the success of our chapter in providing students an opportunity to develop their leadership skills through chapter events” said chapter president Barbara Arel. “Our Beta Gamma Sigma students possess excellent academic skills and an enthusiasm and willingness to help others.”
In addition to receiving the Outstanding Chapter Award, Charlene Begley, Director at SentinelOne, Nasdaq, Hilton Worldwide, has been named as a Beta Gamma Sigma 2021 Business Achievement Award winner. Nominated by the University of Vermont, Grossman School of Business Beta Gamma Sigma chapter, Begley receives this honor based on exemplary demonstration of leadership excellence.
The Beta Gamma Sigma Business Achievement Award is presented to honor individuals for significant achievement in the field of business. Their achievement may be demonstrated over an entire career or by a singular, significant contribution that has advanced the field, their community, and/or humankind. A nominee need not have received a degree in business or be a member of Beta Gamma Sigma to receive this award.
The Mission of the International Honor Society Beta Gamma Sigma is to encourage and honor academic achievement in the study of business, to cultivate and celebrate leadership and professional excellence, to advance the values of the Society, and to serve its lifelong members. The mission is supported by four objectives:
- Encourage and honor academic achievement by students of business and management through chapters in business programs accredited by AACSB International
- Develop Beta Gamma Sigma members as student and professional leaders, and celebrate continuing leadership and excellence
- Foster in Beta Gamma Sigma members an enduring commitment to the founding principles and values of the Society: honor and integrity, pursuit of wisdom, earnestness, and service.
- Connect Beta Gamma Sigma student and alumni members to each other and to opportunities in their professional lives
In addition to being recognized by the Society at a variety of events throughout the year, the 2021 Bronze Chapter Award provides a $750 USD Beta Gamma Sigma scholarship for the chapter to award to an outstanding student.
Annually, Beta Gamma Sigma recognizes its most outstanding chapters at the Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Best Practice levels. These awards are merit recognitions presented to chapters who participate in a variety of chapter and Society activities and exemplify outstanding commitment to the mission of Beta Gamma Sigma.
Established in 1913, Beta Gamma Sigma is an international honor society which operates exclusively for AACSB accredited business programs. Membership in Beta Gamma Sigma is highly selective, reserved for top students within the top 5% of business schools around the world.
