At the Grossman School of Business, excellence is defined not only by achievement in the classroom but by leadership, discipline, and impact across campus and beyond. Myra Shalaty '27 exemplifies this intersection of academic rigor and athletic achievement through her commitment to business education, leadership development, and collegiate competition.

A third-year undergraduate majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting, Myra pursues her studies with a Global Business theme and minors in Sports Management and Economics. Her academic focus reflects a strong interest in the strategic and analytical dimensions of business, which is complemented by hands-on leadership experience both inside and outside the classroom. After graduation, Myra plans to attend graduate school to earn a master’s degree in accounting and sit for the CPA exam, continuing her path toward a professional career in the field.

Earlier this year, Myra competed with the University of Vermont Synchronized Skating Team at the Eastern Sectional Championships, where the team earned a first-place finish and achieved a new personal best, securing their title as two-time Eastern Champions. The milestone victory followed closely on the heels of Myra’s involvement as a student competitor at the 13th Annual Schlesinger Global Family Enterprise Case Competition (SG-FECC), where she competed on the University of Vermont’s undergraduate team. Together, both events proved to be a testament to her ability to balance high-level athletic competition with academically focused leadership responsibilities.

Balancing a demanding academic course load with elite-level athletics requires focus, resilience, and strong time management skills. Although she holds senior academic status, Myra is a member of the Class of 2027 and remains fully engaged in the Grossman academic community.

“Balancing coursework with athletics has really shaped how I manage my time and approach leadership, especially when things get busy” Myra shared.

Within UVM’s skating community, Myra serves as Captain of the UVM Synchronized Skating Team, guiding teammates through training, competition preparation, and performance day leadership. She also holds the role of Vice President of the UVM Figure Skating Club (UVMFSC), where she supports organizational planning, student engagement, and collaboration across the broader skating program. Additionally, she is a member of the UVMFSC Ice Cats, a group of selected club members who perform group routines at UVM men’s and women’s hockey games.

Reflecting on the team’s recent success, Myra emphasized the collective effort behind the achievement:

“Our synchro team placed first at Eastern Sectionals and earned a new personal best, which also makes us two-time Eastern Champions,” she said. “It was incredibly rewarding to see the work pay off, knowing how much dedication everyone on the team puts in throughout the season.”

In addition to her campus leadership roles, Myra represents UVM on a national stage as a U.S. Figure Skating Collegiate Ambassador, helping promote collegiate skating while fostering mentorship, leadership development, and connection within the sport.

At Grossman, Myra’s experience highlights the powerful alignment between academic learning and athletic leadership. The skills she develops through competition—strategic thinking, teamwork, accountability, and decision-making under pressure—mirror those required effective business leaders in today’s complex global economy.

Myra Shalaty’s achievements reflect the dynamic opportunities available to Grossman students and the value of pursuing excellence across disciplines. Her journey underscores how academic focus, leadership experience, and athletic commitment can reinforce one another to shape well-rounded, purpose-driven professionals.

Please join us in congratulating Myra Shalaty ’27 and the UVM Synchronized Skating Team on their outstanding accomplishments. Their continued commitment to excellence in scholarship, leadership, and competition embodies the spirit of the Grossman School of Business and UVM community.
