Roseann (Rose) Cohen,

Rose holds a Ph.D. from the Environmental Studies Department at the University of California, Santa Cruz, with a specialization in Latin American and Latino Studies. Her research has focused on the sociocultural significance of farmers’ relationship to their crops and land, the impacts of insecure land tenure, forced displacement, and violence on farming communities in Colombia, and the role of community gardens in food justice and urban belonging for Latinx immigrant families in Santa Cruz, California. Through her work at CAN, she focuses her passion and energy toward developing collaborative relationships with grassroots organizations and affiliated researchers that build from local knowledge, turn research into action, and support leadership of women and youth in initiatives for achieving food sovereignty.
