Minor in Business Administration
A minor in Business Administration is one of two business minors available at UVM (the other minor is Accounting). For either minor, students need to submit an application and successfully complete the prerequisite courses. Complete the minor application for non-business majors.
To be awarded a Minor in Business Administration, a student must earn at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA in the Business minor courses. The minor GPA consists of accounting course(s) and four upper-level business courses.
Prerequisites
The four prerequisite courses must be completed with a GPA of at least a 2.0 before you can be admitted to the Minor in Business Administration:
- ECON 11 - Macroeconomics
- ECON 12 - Microeconomics
- MATH 19 or 21 - Calculus
- STAT 141 or (STAT 111 and STAT 211) - Statistics*
*For students whose majors require a Statistics course, the following courses are approved as substitutes for STAT 141: EC 170, NR 140, PSYC 109 and 110, STAT 143
Requirements
Accounting courses
- BSAD 65 - Fundamentals of Accounting
OR
- BSAD 60 and BSAD 61 - Financial & Managerial Accounting
Upper level courses
Students must complete four additional business courses numbered 100 or above, at least three of four upper-level courses must be completed at UVM. One of these courses must be selected from:
- BSAD 120 - Management & Organizational Behavior
- BSAD 132 - Political Environment of Business
- BSAD 141 - Management Information Systems
- BSAD 150 - Marketing Management
- BSAD 173 - Production & Operations Management
- BSAD 180 - Managerial Finance

Computer competency
Students are presumed to have basic microcomputer literacy, including a working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software. Students lacking this basic knowledge are responsible for attaining it through course work, self study, tutorials or workshops.
How do I pursue a minor in Business Administration?
First, check with your own Dean's Office to determine if the minor in Business Administration is accepted by your School or College and will be possible within your remaining degree requirements. Complete a Minor Application. Once you have met the prerequisite requirements you will receive notification of your admissibility to the minor.
