Background and Research Interests

Mark is currently an undergraduate student in the chemistry department at UVM. Originally interested in organic chemistry, he worked with Prof. Adam Whalley on the synthesis of organic semiconductors. After begrudgingly taking physical chemistry with Prof. Ruggiero, he was enticed by the concepts and decided to give some related research a try. In the Ruggiero Group, he is working with Peter Banks on the characterization of molecules he’s previously synthesized with Prof. Whalley – bringing his research full-circle and expanding his research horizons in new and exciting ways!

Mark grew up in Medway, Massachusetts – a small suburban town 45 minutes from Boston. He graduated from Xaverian Brothers High School in Westwood, Massachusetts, and is currently an undergraduate student here at the University of Vermont. Mark chose UVM primarily for the great undergraduate chemistry program, but also for the fantastic location! In his free time, he enjoys outdoor activities such as bouldering, skiing, and cycling, and can regularly be found scaling the mighty Green Mountain peaks.

Stay tuned for exciting developments from Mark!
