BIO
Nurjahan Begum is a PhD student in Natural Resources. She studies microplastic pollution in Lake Champlain, focusing on how environmental drivers and human activity shape the distribution of plastics along shorelines and strandlines. Her work aims to better understand where microplastics accumulate, how they move through the lake–beach system, and what this means for freshwater ecosystems.
Nurjahan is from Bangladesh and completed both her BSc and MS in Environmental Science at the University of Chittagong. Her previous research includes microplastic contamination in sea salt and agricultural soils near open waste dumping sites, as well as the role of informal waste pickers in solid waste management. She is broadly interested in plastic pollution, water quality, and the links between environmental contamination and human communities.
