BIO
Nina Safavi is the Associate Director of the UVM Spatial Analysis Laboratory, where she manages the Geospatial Mapping Team. In this role, she guides the production of cartographic products, spatial analyses, and data visualizations that inform environmental decision-making at local, regional, and international scales. With more than 15 years of experience in GIS, urban forestry, and landscape design, she is interested in how spatial data and collaborative engagement can help communities build more sustainable and resilient landscapes.
Nina’s work spans research and practice—from leading park improvement projects across Burlington as the City’s Parks Comprehensive Planner, to developing statewide transportation mapping tools at the VT Agency of Transportation, to coordinating community-led urban forestry initiatives with the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society.
Nina recieved a B.B.A. in Economics from Temple University, an M.S. in Urban Spatial Analytics from the University of Pennsylvania School of Design, and an M.S. in Landscape Architecture from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences.
