Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS), an international honors society for business students, has recognized the University of Vermont (UVM) Grossman School of Business (GSB) chapter as a “Highest Honors Chapter” for the 2022-2023 academic year. This makes it the 7th consecutive year GSB’s chapter has been awarded this honor since the Chapter Honor Roll program started in the 2016-2017 academic year. Qualifying for this recognition is indicative of a campus where academic excellence is highly valued.

BGS membership is the highest scholastic recognition a student can receive in an undergraduate or master’s program in business. Membership is by invitation-only, extended to top students at business schools accredited by the International Association to Advance College Schools of Business (AACSB). Only 5% of business schools are accredited by AACSB, and only a select few of those have the honor of joining Beta Gamma Sigma.

“We’re proud to receive this status for so many consecutive years. It underscores the incredible work our students are doing, and we’re happy to see them thrive year after year,” said Sanjay Sharma, dean, Grossman School of Business. “Beta Gamma Sigma includes a selection of the best business students in the world. This recognition highlights UVM Grossman School of Business as a premier business school.”

Other Notable Awards from Beta Gamma Sigma

Previously, GSB’s Beta Gamma Sigma chapter has received several Outstanding Chapter Awards. These awards recognize chapters that demonstrate excellence in chapter performance, participate in a variety of chapter and Society activities, and exemplify outstanding commitment to the international honor society’s mission. GSB received the 2021 Outstanding Chapter Bronze Award, the highest recognition the school has received. GSB also was named the 2023 Best Practice Chapter. With the award comes the Best Practices Scholarship. This $500 scholarship was granted to GSB student Liam Concannon. As well, GSB was named the 2023 Beta Gamma Sigma Chapter Advisor of the Year awarded to Joanne Pencak for her ongoing commitment to and support of GSB students and the school's chapter, and the 2019 Best Practice in Founding Principles Chapter.

Other honors awarded to the GSB Chapter include the 2021 Beta Gamma Sigma Business Achievement Award winner awarded to Charlene Begley, and the 2020 Beta Gamma Sigma Entrepreneurial Achievement Award awarded to Ted Castle, President of Rhino Foods – both nominated by our chapter.
