Welcome to the Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine at the University of Vermont. As the seventh-oldest medical school in the United States and part of a proud land-grant university, we build on a long tradition of excellence while advancing the University’s vision to forge bold futures.
Education is continually evolving, and Larner remains at the forefront. Our innovative medical curriculum, with a focus on active learning, intentionally integrates foundational and clinical sciences while cultivating intellectual curiosity, empathy, and a commitment to excellence. We prepare medical and graduate students to become leaders in their respective fields and to address the evolving health needs of the communities they serve.
Patient care is central to our College’s mission. Since 1822, we have educated physicians to serve Vermont and communities beyond. We are the academic home of UVM Health, including Vermont’s largest health care facility and teaching hospital, the UVM Medical Center, where scientific discovery is translated directly into clinical care. Together, we are committed to improving health outcomes across a predominantly rural state.
Larner leads the research enterprise at UVM, an R1 institution, with a broad portfolio spanning basic, translational, clinical, epidemiological, and health services research. Our nationally recognized researchers and educators are uniquely positioned to advance scientific discovery, improve patient care, and develop innovative solutions that benefit the people and communities we serve in Vermont and around the world.
Underlying all we do is a commitment to professionalism and to enabling excellence. We foster a collaborative community where individuals are supported to do their best work, take on meaningful challenges, and contribute to solutions that improve lives across our region and beyond.
I invite you to explore our College and experience all that Larner has to offer.
