Pre-Clinical Curriculum: Foundations

Family Medicine directs Doctoring in Vermont, the intro to clinical medicine where over 60 Family Medicine physicians open their doors to first year students. Faculty also serve as advisors for Professionalism, Reflection and Communication and provide didactic and hands-on sessions in Foundations.

Clerkship

In practices in VT, CT, NY & ME, students progress their clinical skills in a rigorous and supportive learning environment alongside experienced family physicians. The focus is on building relationships while providing high quality, patient-centered, team-based, continuity care across the lifespan.

Advanced Integration

AI students can choose from a diverse selection of courses, clinical & non-clinical, including the FM Acting Internship. These offer opportunities to advance skills, gain exposure to Family Medicine and explore personal interests. We offer scholarly opportunities and provide advising and mentorship.

Faculty Scholarship Program

The UVM Larner College of Medicine's Department of Family Medicine seeks to boost innovation and extramural funding for faculty scholarship. Competitive grants will be provided for academic projects aligned with departmental priorities, available to Clinical and Education Scholar faculty.

Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG) 

FMIG is a student-led organization dedicated to engaging medical students with family medicine and supporting their exploration of this field, including:

  • Leadership roles

  • Faculty mentoring

  • Elective series

  • Social events

  • Meetings (local to national)
