Beginning Monday, August 5, 2002 the wireless network that has been installed by Network Services in several buildings on campus (known as Cat's PAWS) will be secured by being configured behind our VPN (Virtual Private Network). This means that wireless users will need to install and run VPN client software in order to access the wireless network.
After you have installed a VPN client, your wireless transmissions over the air will be encrypted and you will need to authenticate yourself to the VPN (using your Zoo username and password) in order to access the Internet over the wireless network.
VPN clients for Windows, Mac OS 8 and 9, and Mac OS X can be downloaded from the software distribution web page http://www.uvm.edu/software.
Installation instructions can also be found there. Macintosh users should pay particular attention to the installation instructions and the sequence of steps necessary to correctly install and run the VPN client.
