A variant of the ILOVEYOU email VBScript worm has been once again
spotted in UVMers' email. If you receive email with the subject
"FWD: joke" -- even from someone you know and trust -- do not try to
view the attachment(s). The ugly things that will happen to your
computer are detailed at:
http://www.cert.org/advisories/CA-2000-04.html
As a reminder, UVM has a site license for McAfee's VirusScan
software. The McAfee DAT (virus definition file) for it was released
05/10/2000; check to be sure you're at least at that level. You can
pick up VirusScan at UVM's software archive:
http://cit.uvm.edu/antivirus/
Users of Outlook and Exchange should have installed the Microsoft
updates, listed at the URL below, by now:
http://vil.nai.com/villib/dispVirus.asp?virus_k=98617
The link above also gives details on prevention and removal.
