UVM is thoughtfully expanding access to AI tools across teaching, research, administration, and everyday work. Our approach is phased, prioritizing secure, well-supported enterprise tools while evaluating additional options based on need, cost, and sustainability.
Available Today
Microsoft Copilot is UVM’s campus standard and available now, with licensing expanding as adoption grows.
Copilot agents are available within Microsoft 365, with consulting for agent development available by request.
Anthropic Claude and Claude Code are available by request for advanced and specialized use cases, with single sign-on and commercial data protection terms.
Coming Next
Our immediate focus is strengthening adoption and support for Copilot while expanding access to Claude.
ChatGPT is in contract review, with availability by request planned for the fall semester. Copilot and Claude will remain our preferred tools.
A multi-model AI service, being explored in partnership with UMass Amherst, is targeted for an initial winter deployment and broader production use in the spring.
GitLab Duo is planned for the spring semester.
Looking Ahead
We continue to evaluate potential multi-model gateways for programmatic access to AI services while working through cost-management and billing considerations. Other AI tools and services will be considered as needs evolve.
If you have immediate questions about tools and resources, please send an email.
Our goal is not simply to add more tools, but to build a thoughtful, secure, and sustainable AI portfolio that provides the UVM community with appropriate choices while balancing innovation, privacy, support, and cost.
