People who were using the Calypso server at the end of last week have now been switched over to the Gemini server. Calypso was used typically for access to the Banner Student Information System. Anyone who was not a Calypso user up through last Friday is not affected by these changes.
Help will be available Monday October 7 for anyone who has been using the server Calypso and who has difficulty making the switch to Gemini after following the instructions that have been posted on the AdvoCats email list (see below). Computing and Information Technology's Help Line will have consultants on duty who are able to assist, and Computing and Information Technology Client Services level II consultants will give priority to any situation that can't be resolved over the phone at the Help Line.
To those who have been inconvenienced, and to those whose work has been interrupted, thank you for your patience and understanding. All use of the Calypso server has been in the process of being moved to Gemini, and many people have already successfully made the switch. The move of the remaining users of Calypso onto Gemini accelerates a process that would have been completed in the next several weeks even if last week's Calypso problems hadn't occurred.
Instructions for completing the switch from Calypso to Gemini:
Owing to unforseen circumstances, the NetWare server "Calypso" has been taken out of service permanently. All Common LAN Service users who were using Calypso on Friday have had their files and printers migrated to the "Gemini" server cluster. You should be able to access your files without making any changes to your computer; however, you will need to reinstall your printers. We will be in touch with additional instructions. If you do have difficulty logging in, we suggest that you remove "CALYPSO" from the prefered server field under the "Advanced" tab of your login screen. No prefered server need be specified. All non-CITRIX Banner users will need to upgrade their local Banner applications. Go to http://www.uvm.edu/software/ and install the Banner application for your operating system. We suggest that you delete your existing Banner shortcuts before installing the new version. (NOTE: Windows 95 and NT are no longer supported. Installation on Win95 and NT will not work!) (NOTE: Windows XP support is experimental, but preliminary experiments indicate that it works... We suggest you use the Windows 2000 installer if you need access to banner on Windows XP).Help Line: 656-2604CIT Client Services
