Berlin--Andrew May recently joined the University of Vermont (UVM) Extension Center for Sustainable Agriculture as its new Grazing and Livestock Program coordinator. He will be based in the Extension office in Berlin.

As coordinator, he will expand and coordinate UVM Extension's grazing, pasture and livestock research and outreach activities, collaborating with agencies and organizations that work directly with farmers. His position will be supported by a grant from the Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food and Markets.  

May has extensive experience in developing the capacity of numerous farm and food systems organizations in New England and throughout the U.S. He previously performed an evaluation of food policy councils across Kansas as a food systems analyst and worked with the University of Oregon's Resource Assistance for Rural Environments as a community food organizer.

In addition, he recently interned with Northbound Ventures Consulting, LLC in Montpelier. The job entailed working with regional and community food systems projects involving a community food assessment, food hub feasibility study and assessment of school food solutions.

The Ohio native received his bachelor's degree in sustainable development from Appalachian State University in 2015 and a master's degree in agriculture, food and environment from the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University earlier this year. At Tufts he was named an Ellen H. Block Scholar for his commitment to combating critical food and nutrition issues in the U.S. through direct service to underrepresented communities.
