Lecturer

Avi Waring has been exploring the structure and technique of classical ballet for 35 years. She considers ballet technique her movement meditation and her first relationship with ritual. She has used this lifelong interest as a jumping off point to explore a wide array of movement styles and performance concepts. She has studied and performed classical ballet, lots of contemporary dance, emergent choreography, dance theater, authentic movement, action theater, dance and sketch comedy improvisation, and stand-up comedy. She always returns to the work in ballet class to clarify and hone her mind/ body.
Avi teaches ballet and contemporary dance at Vermont State University, Ballet Vermont, and the University of Vermont. Avi is also a Rehearsal Director for Ballet Vermont.
