Introducing the production season for the UVM School of the Arts Program in Theatre and Dance during the 2024/2025 academic year.
Auditions for theatre productions are open to all UVM students. In some cases, professional actors serve as guest artists on productions, or community members are cast in order to fulfill the needs of a particular show.
Tickets for any of the productions listed below can now be purchased online. In addition to purchasing tickets for individual shows, this year we are offering the option of purchasing a 3-show Membership Package for our line-up of theatrical productions presented in the Royall Tyler Theatre. The eccentric superheroes of Fathom Town—the Tune! the Bad Map! the Intoxicator! Fragrance Fellow! and more—are busy in their submarine base. Are they fighting crime? Not really! Instead, they’re frantically running a telethon to raise money for their amateur production of The Tempest. In their conversations with the skeptical citizens of the town, the story of The Tempest reemerges as their own, creating a hilarious and ultimately poignant new vision of Shakespeare’s tale. Spirits to Enforce is a modern surrealist comedy from one of America’s most inventive contemporary playwrights.

Shimmering Site

Ira Allen Chapel
UVM Program in Theatre and Dance students Julian Barnett will direct a new site-specific dance performance within Ira Allen Chapel exploring the chapel’s architecture, significance as a prominent historical landmark and place for collective gathering, grieving, and celebration, and the clock tower’s inability to tell the correct time, the performance will act as an artistic mediation between UVM’s history, present, and future. The performance will include an ensemble cast of UVM Theatre and Dance students and original live music performed by guest artists and students.
The Thanksgiving Play

Absurd assumptions and good intentions collide in this Broadway hit comic satire by groundbreaking Native American playwright, Larissa FastHorse. Dancing Uphill 2025

Dancing Uphill, an annual tradition, explores the play, rigor, and collaboration that goes into the dancing, dance-making, and creative research in the UVM School of the Arts dance program. Highlighting UVM dance student performers, Dancing Uphill 2025 features original choreography by UVM dance faculty Paul Besaw, Millie Heckler, and Julie Peoples-Clark, as well as work by guest artists Shani Collins-Achille and Chloe A. Schafer (UVM Class of 2021). Directed by Besaw, the show also includes original student choreography and lighting by Craig Zemsky.
Tickets for Dancing Uphill 2025 are $10 for UVM Students and $15 for all others. Seating is general admission - no reserved seating. Seating is limited.

The Tony and Drama Desk award-winning musical, She Loves Me is set in a humble perfumery and follows Amalia and Georg, two shop clerks who can’t seem to find common ground. Little do they know that the anonymous pen pals they’ve been falling for may be less anonymous than they first believed. Featuring a soaring score and a charming book, She Loves Me boasts a stellar ensemble of characters all navigating the timeless confusions and joys of falling in love. Memorable songs include Vanilla Ice Cream and She Loves Me.

Save 20% off the full ticket price (processing and transaction fees are not included in this discount) when you purchase a Three Show Membership package to the theatre productions presented in the Royall Tyler Theatre.

Directions
From I-89: Take exit 14W, Route 2 (Williston Road) west toward Lake Champlain. Go to the fourth traffic light (University Place) and turn right. The UVM Theatre is on the right just behind the Campus Transit turnaround.
From Route 7 South: Take Route 7 (Shelburne Road) to Pearl Street in Burlington and turn right. Follow Pearl Street east away from Lake Champlain. At the Ira Allen Chapel (University Place), turn right. The UVM Theatre is at the end of the street on your left just behind the Campus Transit turnaround.
From Route 15: Continue through Winooski over the Winooski Bridge. From traffic light at the Fletcher Allen Hospital, continue to next traffic light (University Place) and turn left. The UVM Theatre is at the end of the street on your left just behind the Campus Transit turnaround.
Parking
The best place to park during evening and weekend performances is in the Allen House Lot on the corner of Main and Prospect Street. Turn in as if going to Admissions and take a quick left into the lot. We do not recommend parking directly in front of the theatre where it says "No parking anytime" as the City of Burlington will ticket and tow. Handicap Parking is still available next to Morrill.
