We are delighted to introduce you to a youthful yet highly accomplished artist, Mexican pianist Daniela Liebman. What a rare and exciting opportunity to see an artist right at the beginning of her career as it begins to ascend. Just 21-years-old, Daniela has already performed with over thirty orchestras on four continents. Since her debut at age 8 with the Aguascalientes Symphony, her list of accomplishments is staggering. In both 2016 and 2017, Daniela was named one of the “40 Most Creative Mexicans in the World” by Forbes Mexico. In 2018, Daniela was again named one of Forbes Mexico’s “100 Most Creative and Powerful Women,” celebrating extraordinary Mexican leaders in the arts. This season, Daniela makes her recital debuts at The Noorda at Utah Valley University, and with la Sociedad Filarmònica de Lima (Peru) and Instrumentos de la Esperanza. Her recent recital appearances include the 2022 Blanco y Negro Festival in Mexico City and the Ravinia Festival, where she gave her third performance in 2021. Daniela has recently performed at La Jolla Music Society; the Kennedy Center; Rockefeller University’s Tri-I Noon Recital Series; Guatemala City; Joinville and Porto Alegre in Brazil; León, Durango, San Cristóbal de las Casas, and Cuernavaca in Mexico; the Brevard Music Center; Valparaíso, Chile; the Salon de Virtuosi in New York; and many more.

  • UVM Recital Hall: Yasmin Williams
    7:00pm - 9:00pm
    UVM Recital Hall

A jaw-droppingly talented, self-taught, finger-style acoustic guitarist and composer, Yasmin Williams also incorporates body and hand percussion, tapping, and extended techniques on the instrument to create her beautiful and complex music. She is a true virtuoso in her mastery of the guitar and in the ambidextrous and pedidextrous techniques of her own invention, but her playing never sacrifices lyricism, melody, and rhythm for pure demonstration of skill. Her influences range from video games like Guitar Hero, to smooth jazz, to West African griots. Her latest album, Urban Driftwood, has received critical acclaim from numerous major publications including The New York Times, Pitchfork (where she was listed as “25 New and Rising Artists Shaping the Future of Music in 2023”), Rolling Stone, The Washington Post, NPR Music, The Fader, Wall Street Journal, AllMusic, Paste Magazine, and No Depression.

  • Here Now: Art and Migration
    12:00am - 12:00am
Burlington City Arts (135 Church St, Burlington, VT 05401, United States)

(Through May 11) Co-curated by Dr. Sarah Rogers, Visiting Asst. Prof. of History of Art & Architecture, Middlebury College, and Heather Ferrell, BCA's Curator and Director of Exhibitions.

Here Now brings together a group of international and regional artists whose work explores concepts of borders, movement, and migration across local urban centers and global geographies. Through their choice of materials and visual languages, these artists challenge conventional notions of borders as fixed. They reimagine borders as sites of historical investigations, social reckoning, and conduits of an emerging aesthetic. The exhibit features The Migrant Body, a film by UVM Dance Assistant Professor Paula Higa (Burlington, VT) alongside others from across the country.
