The Grossman School of Business at the University of Vermont has once again affirmed its position among the nation’s strongest performers on the Uniform CPA Examination. According to the 2024 NASBA Candidate Performance dataset, UVM ranked #17 of 721 institutions nationwide, placing Grossman in the Top 2 percent of all U.S. institutions.  Among medium accounting programs, UVM ranked in the Top 1 percent (#2 of 295).

Regional and National Standing in 2024

In addition to the impressive national placement, the 2024 results highlight UVM’s leadership across the Northeast and New England:

  • #1 Flagship University in both the Northeast and New England

  • #1 Public University in both the Northeast and New England

  • #4 Flagship University in the United States

This exceptional achievement builds on more than a decade of recognition for consistent, national-level excellence. Since 2011, UVM has ranked in the Top 40 among mid‑size/medium programs every year measured, a testament to enduring program strength. During that same period, UVM has placed within the Top ~10 percent or better in 12 of the past 13 measured years, including #3 of 721 institutions (Top 1%) in 2020.  These distinctions underscore UVM’s rise as a premier public institution for accounting education in the region and across the country.

The UVM Culture Behind the Results

Faculty leadership attributes this consistency not just to academic rigor, but to a distinctive culture that supports student success and encourages timely pursuit of CPA licensure.

“One thing to stress is our consistent performance,” said Suzanne Lowensohn, PhD, CPA (Florida), CGMA, Director of the Master of Accountancy Program. “Many schools have a stellar year here and there, but our students have consistently performed well due to their hard work and dedication linked with UVM’s culture. We provide knowledge and support, encouraging students to sit for the exam as soon as possible.”

Lowensohn also emphasized that UVM’s culture is a defining force behind its results.

“Our students’ consistent success is not a coincidence. It reflects their dedication, the strength of UVM’s curriculum, and a community that lifts each other up. That support shows in these results.”

Preparing Future Leaders

The Grossman School of Business Master of Accountancy program continues adapting to the evolving CPA licensure landscape, including the competencies introduced through the CPA Evolution model. UVM’s performance in 2024 — its strongest in recent years — demonstrates the effectiveness of its curriculum and the readiness of its graduates for the profession’s demands.

As UVM celebrates these new milestones, the decade‑long trend tells a compelling story that includes a #3 national ranking (Top 1 percent) in 2020 and a Top 2 percent national ranking in 2024. The Grossman School of Business continues to shine, delivering exceptional outcomes for students, employers, and the accounting profession.
