Membership in Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) is one of the highest recognitions a student can receive in an undergraduate or master's program in business schools accredited by the International Association to Advance College Schools of Business or AACSB.  

Today, 30 undergraduate and graduate University of Vermont Grossman School of Business students were inducted into BGS, the international honor society that recognizes the outstanding academic achievements of students enrolled in collegiate business and management programs.

The students' selection not only recognizes academic achievements, it also expresses confidence in their abilities and promise to become responsible leaders in the future.

This year's ceremony featured guest speaker Richard L. Quad ('90), Co-Head, Financial Institutions of Griffin Financial Group. Richard has more than 20 years of experience in both investment banking and commercial banking in the Northeast. As a senior investment banker, he has successfully completed over 50 assignments for more than 25 community bank clients including common, convertible, preferred stock and subordinated debt offerings, buy-side, sell-side and FDIC receivership transactions, as well as strategic and general advisory assignments.  

Richard received a B.S., magna cum laude, in Business Administration with a concentration in finance from the University of Vermont and an MBA with distinction from Cornell University. He holds Series 7 and 63 licenses from FINRA. 

He spoke of his career and noted some life lessons he had found on his journey. "Always maintain your integrity, without it you have nothing. There is no substitute for hard work and embrace your mentors; you are not alone. Recognize your opportunites and be ready to capitalize and lastly create a place in your life for your career; work life balance is very important so don't jam your life into your career."
