Flu Shots on Campus for Faculty and Staff

News About Clinics; Information on Off-Campus Shots

Flu Season Sign

For the convenience of UVM faculty, staff, retirees and certain dependents of the same, (see the age requirements below), the University will host four flu shot clinics on campus beginning in October. The clinics will be administered by Fletcher Allen Health Care; dates and times will be announced.

UPDATE: The October 6 and 8 flu shot clinics were successfully completed, however Fletcher Allen Health Care has reported a problem accessing sufficient supply of vaccine. As a result, the clinics scheduled on campus for October 21 and 23 have been CANCELED. At this point we hope to reschedule, but we cannot be certain if or when we might be able to do so. We will make faculty and staff aware of any on-campus flu shot clinic news through UVM News You Should Know, in an e-mail to their HR Reps, and via the HRS website. Faculty and staff who are interested to get a flu shot should read the information below under the heading "Other Flu Shot Options."

Important Details re: On-Campus Clinics

  • There is no cost for those who are covered on the UVM healthcare plan with BlueCross and BlueShield of Vermont (BCBSVT). You must present your BCBSVT card and a photo ID.
  • We will NOT schedule appointments this year. Flu shots will be delivered on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • There are two required forms. To save time, complete them in advance.
  • In keeping with Fletcher Allen guidelines, flu shots will be available to individuals who are 18-years old and older. If you wish to get a flu shot for minor dependents, read the information below.

Payment Arrangements

If you are NOT covered on the UVM healthcare plan with BCBSVT, you will need to pay $25 cash or check at the time of the flu shot. (Credit and debit cards will NOT be accepted.)

If you ARE covered on the UVM healthcare plan with BCBSVT, there is no cost to you for the flu shot. You must present your BCBSVT card and a photo ID.

Other Flu Shot Options

If you are covered on the UVM healthcare plan with BCBSVT and it is not convenient for you (or your covered dependents) to receive a flu shot on campus, or if you wish to get flu shots for your covered dependents who are under age 18, you and/or your dependents can receive flu shots from your primary care provider or from a BCBSVT network pharmacy at no cost to you (subject to scheduling requirements and availability). Simply present your BCBSVT card—you will not need to fill out the Fletcher Allen paperwork mentioned above.

Those who choose to receive a flu shot at a BCBSVT network pharmacy might find it easiest to go to the pharmacy that regulary fills their prescriptions, since that establishment will already have all the pertinent information on record.

For more information on seasonal flu vaccines, see the resources on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website—especially the resources at the bottom of the page under "Patient Education."
