UVM staff are our most important resource, helping us maintain our mission to educate and enlighten. Demonstrating our appreciation is important. Here are some simple ways to let your staff and co-workers know they are appreciated any time of year:
Say "thank you." It's a simple and deeply meaningful gesture of appreciation.
Set calendar reminders for upcoming birthdays, milestones, or anniversaries and acknowledge staff on those days.
*Make sure to include hybrid and remote staff in meetings and events, and let them know they are appreciated members of the team.
Allow, and encourage, staff to participate in Professional Development and Training classes. Showing staff that you value their skills and support career growth is important to them and your entire team.
Encourage staff to engage in work-life balance opportunities. Employee Wellness offers a variety of fun and healthy activities.
Practice inclusivity! It's easy to connect with certain coworkers, especially with hybrid and remote work options now, but it can be polarizing for teams if some feel excluded from team conversations and activities. Be inclusive with your appreciation!
Promote Staff Council events and share ideas with your Staff Council representative. A variety of campus walks, tours, and other activities happen monthly.
* Workplace dynamics have changed with hybrid and remote work schedules. While some people thrive in this work environment, making sure people feel connected and engaged with one another and the mission of the institution is important. Read what Gallup has to say about "The Four Essential Dynamics of Hybrid Work."

Words of Thanks from President Garimella to UVM Staff
Volunteerism is one of the many ways faculty and staff show their connection to the university and greater community. Campus partners like Staff Council, the Office of Engagement, and external parners like the United Way, help employees find and share unique and valuable opportunities to work together and enrich the lives of others. Share your volunteer story with the Office of Engagement.
