Path to Medical School: Paying for Medical School

Medical school is very expensive. AAMC and AACOM both offer multiple helpful resources for navigating the financing and repayment options. Fee assistance programs are offered for both MD and DO applicants to offset the cost of MCAT and centralized application services. AACOM has recently created online financial aid debt management modules which would be helpful for students applying to either MD or DO schools. The National Health Service Corps (NHSC) offers a loan repayment opportunity to MD or DO students pursuing a primary care specialty who practice in a Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSAs). The Federal Health Program for American Indians and Alaska Natives (Indian Health Service) offers loan repayment in exchange for a two-year service commitment. Three branches of the military offer health professions scholarship programs (loan repayment in exchange for service): Air Force, Army, Navy. Scholarship opportunities are available for those with underrepresented identities.
