For LCSGs third research webinar of the fall series, the Lake Champlain Basin Marine Debris Community Action Coalition will present some of their recent work.

Established in fall 2024, the Lake Champlain Basin Marine Debris Coalition is led by Lake Champlain Sea Grant, Rozalia Project, Lake Champlain Committee, Conservation Law Foundation, Vermont Boat and Marine Association, and Lake George Association. This effort is made possible by funding from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

The team carried out a series of surveys of businesses and property owners during summer 2025. Goals included understanding use and sale of foam-based products that had potential to end up as marine debris in the lake, such as docks, buoys, take away containers, coolers, and bait buckets. This presentation will summarize high level findings of these surveys and share ideas for outreach to address barriers individuals and businesses face in using encapsulated foam or non-foam products on and near the lake.
