Research Webinar: Port to Praxis: A Mixed Methods Study Evaluating the Impact of Vessel-Based Professional Learning Experiences on K-12 Teachers’ Knowledge, Teaching Efficacy, and Sense of Place

Date/Time:
Monday, January 5, 2026 - 1:00pm
Location:
Zoom—Registration Required

For our second research webinar of the spring semester, LCSG's own Ashley Eaton will present on her recently published research about place-based education. While there is a vast body of research on science education and land-based environmental and outdoor education, there is limited research regarding the impact of on-water learning, and even less regarding vessel-based experiences. This talk explores how programs providing K-12 teachers with on-water field experiences, specifically aboard research vessels (R/V), impact K-12 teachers’ understanding of watershed science, teaching efficacy, and sense of place. This research project collected and compared data across four National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Sea Grant education programs that facilitate vessel-based professional learning programs for K-12 teachers.

Participants should expect approximately 30 minutes of presentation, which will be recorded, followed by a facilitated, 30-minute Q&A period.

Register in advance for this webinar.
