BIO
Ari has a background in aquatic ecology, food web dynamics, ecotoxicology, and environmental health and justice. Her research has focused on systems ranging from alpine lakes to Lake Champlain, using stable isotopes and fatty acids to understand how food webs are structured and the implications for species invasions and contaminant bioaccumulation. Most recently, Ari led a community participatory project to understand angling and fish consumption behavior in local refugee communities, and works with the state Department of Health to inform more equitable and effective fish advisory outreach.
Before arriving at UVM, Ari worked in the US Pacific Northwest and Austria, collaborating with the National Parks Service, USGS, and the WasserCluster Lunz Research Institute. Ari has a PhD from Portland State University, where she was an NSF Graduate Research Fellow and ESUR IGERT Fellow, and completed a Certificate of Innovation in College Teaching in 2019.
