With the fall semester well underway, we are excited to have new and returning students, faculty, and staff on campus. I am back for my second year as Interim Dean, and I hope to build on the many successes we saw last year. It has been a year of learning for me, and I thank the entire community for stepping up to help me feel welcome and comfortable in this role. 2023 is a historic year, marking our 50th anniversary as a school at UVM. From our relatively modest beginning in 1973, we have seen tremendous growth in the School's size, research productivity, service to the community, and incredible impact of our more than 6,000 alumni!

If you have been following local and national news, you may have heard about some of the exciting developments and vital activities the Rubenstein School has been involved in over the past few months:

  • The arrival of our new research vessel, the Marcelle Melosira, to Lake Champlain.
  • The work of our Spatial Analysis Lab to support flood recovery in Vermont during July's historic storms.
  • Important climate research by Rubenstein School faculty, postdocs, and students.
  • Our achievement of net zero status for the Aiken Center at UVM, and more!

We are looking forward to a busy remainder of the fall semester on the heels of an eventful summer. Thank you for all that you do!

Sincerely,

Allan Strong, Interim Dean and Professor
