Erica Caloiero

The Vice Provost is the senior student affairs officer for the University and has primary responsibility for the leadership, management, strategic direction, policy development, and administrative oversight of the Division of Student Affairs. She is responsible for providing leadership to ensure the effective coordination and integration of a wide spectrum of student affairs programs and services in order to achieve student development and learning outcomes that result in an experience that supports students in being healthy, successful, engaged.

The Vice Provost works with and represents the interests of a diverse student body to ensure a mutually reinforcing relationship between the academic and non-academic life of students.

The division is comprised of 8 departments and the Dean of Students Office employing approximately 180 employees and 1500 student staff members. All staff within the division provide programs and services that promote the intellectual, cultural, personal, educational, and social life of our students.

Biography

Erica Caloiero was appointed Vice Provost for Student Affairs in December 2021 and as Interim Vice Provost for Student Affairs in January 2021. Erica arrived at UVM in 2007 and most recently served as the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs and Director of Student Services in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences.

As a member of the Provost’s senior leadership team, Erica helps shape the overall foundation and direction for student life on campus, integrating curricular and co-curricular experiences. She is responsible for providing leadership to ensure the effective coordination of a wide spectrum of student affairs programs and services in order to achieve student development and learning outcomes that result in an overall experience that supports students in being healthy, successful, and engaged.

During her tenure at UVM, Erica has provided leadership in the design and implementation of evidence-based practices to support student success and retention; peer mentorship programs; and professional advising. Underpinning her work is a lived commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion through work to retain and support students whose backgrounds are underrepresented in higher education.

Her professional experience in has included positions at Lehigh University, in international education; there, she established models for crisis communication, collaborative program-building, and increasing access to study abroad for underrepresented populations. She completed her undergraduate studies at Wagner College and her master’s degree in counseling at Lehigh University. At UVM, Erica has taught a course to first-year students in health-related majors that provides a foundation in some of the complex social issues facing health professionals.
