The Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources seeks to become a leading national center for sustainability, science, and natural resources, emphasizing new interdisciplinary and traditional disciplines including ecological economics, conservation biology, watershed science and management, ecological design and planning, spatial analysis, and ecosystem health.
Renovations to and expansion of the George D. Aiken Center at the Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources included use of natural light and ventilation, water conservation, on-site waste water treatment and reuse, low-flow or water-less toilets, and sensing water faucets, energy conservation (efficient lighting fixtures, use of LED lighting), and use of recycled and renewable building materials.
The Renovation & Addition to the George D. Aiken Center has received a PLATINUM Level of Certification in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) established by the U.S. Green Building Council.
