Dear UVM Faculty and Staff:

The Vermont Department of Health indicates that travel is one of the main causes of COVID 19 infection and spread in Vermont. Increasingly, counties from Virginia to Ohio to Maine are considered unsafe for travel and it is unlikely this will improve in the near future. There are currently only 15 counties in that area that are considered safe for travel.

I am writing with my strongest recommendation that you do not travel outside of Vermont for business or personal reasons. On the daily health screening, required of faculty and staff who are not exclusively working remote or are taking approved time off, travel restriction is the primary reason faculty and staff are not cleared to be on campus.

If you do travel outside of Vermont, whether for personal or work reasons:

  • You must abide by all Vermont quarantine requirements when you return.
  • Information about travel is updated weekly on Tuesday on the Vermont Agency of Commerce and Community Development website.
  • Information about quarantine requirements is available on the Vermont Department of Health’s website.

In addition, if you have family or friends who travel to Vermont, they are required to follow the guidelines for travel to Vermont as outlined by the Department of Health and the Agency of Commerce and Community Development (information above).

I recognize that this is challenging.  I appreciate your compliance with limiting travel out of Vermont for essential purposes only.
