Dear Graduating Students, Commencement is a significant rite of passage, one I know you have worked hard to attain. It's a time of celebration, anticipation, and comraderie, and we want to honor that in a way that not only recognizes your hard work, but also your resilience.
We’ve reviewed your commencement survey submissions and know that you favor an in-person ceremony. We feel the same way—and can’t wait to welcome you back to campus.
But due to COVID-19, an in-person ceremony is not possible right now, and likely not possible this summer. In the first week of August, after we have a better sense of how things are progressing here and across the country, we will send details on the timing of your rescheduled Commencement ceremony.
In the meantime, your degree will be officially conferred on May 17, and that achievement deserves special recognition. To that end, the “UVM Class of 2020” celebration will be available online starting at 1:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time on May 17, 2020.
This celebration will include messages from several of us, and the conferral of your well-earned degrees. Most importantly, it will also include messages and images from you. To help with this, we’re asking you to provide a highlight of your time at UVM. Further submission information—as well as the celebration details—will be on the Commencement web page starting Friday, May 1.
You and your classmates have overcome challenges few would have expected even just a few months ago. In so doing, you have shown a strength and determination that makes us all proud. We look forward to honoring you.
With best wishes,
University of Vermont President
