Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM)

Body

The Hedwig van Ameringen Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine® (ELAM) program, established in 1995, is a prestigious national leadership fellowship which aims to prepare individuals for senior leadership roles in schools of medicine, public health, dentistry, and pharmacy.

ELAM nominees typically hold the rank of Associate Professor or higher, have prior administrative experience, and demonstrate strong potential to assume executive‑level leadership roles within the next five years. Candidates should have institutional‑level responsibilities and a clear leadership goal that participation in ELAM will help advance.

Interested faculty should discuss the nomination with their department chair and submit a statement of interest and CV via the nomination form. The statement should address the nominee’s leadership experience and outline a proposed Institutional Action Project aligned with institutional priorities.

Chairs and senior leaders are encouraged to identify and support strong candidates for nomination.

Executive Leadership in Health Care (ELH)

Body

Founded in 2022, the Hedwig van Ameringen Executive Leadership in Health Care (ELH) track is designed for senior-level leaders interested in advancing in hospitals and health care systems.

ELH fellows typically hold program‑ or institution‑level leadership responsibilities and aspire to senior health system roles—such as executive leadership, chief medical officer, or chief quality officer—within the next five years. Participants engage in cross‑cohort learning and networking opportunities alongside ELAM fellows and complete an Institutional Action Project (IAP) that addresses a significant organizational need while advancing leadership effectiveness and institutional visibility.
