There is an increasing amount of information security threats and attacks in higher ed environments nationally and globally. As employees of the university, we have a responsibility to protect the confidential and sensitive data entrusted to us as well as prevent disruption or harm to the systems that support the success of our community. To this end, Enterprise Technology Services (ETS) is expanding opportunities to reinforce best practices, educate on how to avoid threats, and to support an information security aware campus.
As part of this effort, all Faculty, Staff, and Temporary Employees will be assigned a brief Security Awareness Training that entails completing a short interactive video module and quiz through Brightspace. This first iteration is very brief and will be focused on the topic of phishing scams. As we work on expanding our security awareness program, the cadence and content of these trainings is likely to change. Our colleagues in Human Resources will be including this first module as a part of the onboarding training for new employees. Future security trainings will rotate through different topics.
Once deployed, employees will be asked to complete the training within 60 days of release, receiving a few automated reminders during this window until it’s complete, then every 2 weeks for a period if the deadline is missed. Similar training will be assigned annually.
Security is a collaborative effort and employee participation in this training strengthens the university’s ability to safeguard the sensitive data and systems we are all tasked with protecting.
