Draft Article

This article is still a draft and the information contained is subject to change and/or may result in inconsistent results.

UVM-owned Windows devices that have been moved to Intune will be receiving a new policy that changes the behavior of the User Account Control (UAC) prompt when performing administrative tasks.

Examples of administrative tasks are:

  • Installing software
  • Changing system settings
  • Installing certain devices and drivers

Previous Configuration

Previous UAC elevations of administrative tasks only prompted for Yes or No. This is defined as a Consent prompt. This prompt looks like this:

New Configuration

All administrative tasks will now prompt for user credentials, even if the user is logged in as a local administrator. The new prompt will look like this:

When to enter credentials

Only enter your credentials into this prompt when you are expecting to be prompted, malware can sometimes masquerade as legitimate software so we ask users to be conscious of when they are performing a task that requires administrative privileges. If you are unsure of why you are being prompted for credentials, please reach out to the Tech Team or your IT support unit.
