BIO

Dr. Vern Grubinger is the Vegetable and Berry Specialist at the University of Vermont. He has been with UVM Extension since 1990. He provides technical advice and conducts applied research for farmers, working with the UVM Extension Commercial Horticulture Team. The team includes Julie Callahan, Farmer Engagement Specialist; Hans Estrin Produce Safety Specialist; Laura Johnson, Polllinator Support Specialist; Becky Maden, Nutrient Management and Soil Health specialist; and Rachel Stievater, NRCS Program Outreach Specialist. Vern also collaborates with the UVM Extension agricultural engineering team, plant diagnostic clinic, soil testing lab, and the Vermont Vegetable and Berry Growers Association. From 2007-2023 Vern served as Director of USDA's Northeast Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education program (SARE), during which the program made over 1,800 grants to farmers, graduate students, researchers, and agricultural service providers for a total of more than $76 million.
