Are you a teen interested in the outdoors and environmental issues? Do you want to spend a weekend in the woods learning from industry experts about Vermont’s natural resources while also having fun taking part in outdoor recreational activities?

Then the Natural Resources Management Academy (NRMA) may be just the opportunity for you. Registration closes June 13 with space for just 30 participants, so don’t wait to sign up.

The annual camping weekend will take place at the Green Mountain Conservation Camp at Buck Lake in Woodbury from July 11 to 13. It’s open to anyone entering Grades 7 to 11 in the fall, and you don’t need to live in Vermont to join in the fun.

The all-inclusive fee is $125, which covers all meals, snacks, workshops, use of canoes and other equipment and two nights’ accommodations in rustic cabins. You can register at https://go.uvm.edu/nrma.

So what will the weekend include?

You will have the opportunity to participate in four hands-on workshops. These will focus on sustainable trails and trail maintenance, watershed science and water quality, composting basics and outside observation of owls. There will also be free time to hike, canoe, fish, swim or just hang out with friends. And what’s camping without evening campfires and gooey s’mores?

Before heading home on Sunday, there will be a short ceremony where you will be presented with a NRMA graduation certificate. Family members are invited to attend.
