Our team at UVM Extension Northwest Crops and Soils Program is evaluating seedborne diseases in dry beans throughout the Northeast. This type of assessment has been particularly helpful for those saving their own seed. If you have samples you would like to have analyzed, please let us know!
We are seeking samples from dry bean producers to be part of a survey that will test for major crop diseases such as:
- Anthracnose (fungal disease)
- Common bacterial blight
- Halo blight
This is the first survey of its kind in our region and will help establish data to determine the state of seed health in organic dry bean production in the Northeast.
In exchange for 5 lbs. of clean, dry seed, survey participants will receive a $50 gift card and the testing results from their sample.
If you want results back prior to planting, we would need to receive the samples as soon as possible.
Submission forms are available on our laboratory website: https://www.uvm.edu/extension/nwcrops/e-e-cummings-crop-testing-laboratory
