Five 4-H teamsters met February 23 at the University of Vermont (UVM) Extension Office in Berlin to compete in the 2025 Working Steer Quiz Bowl.

Wendy Sorrell, UVM Extension 4-H livestock educator, was the organizer and quizmaster for the event, which included a session with parents and 4-H’ers to discuss the working steer project and upcoming shows. Amy Ferris, Braintree, served as scorekeeper for the buzzer rounds.
The 4-H’ers, divided into groups based on their working steer experience, competed in two rounds of 20 to 25 questions. These covered a range of working steer and bovine topics from breeds and feed to classes, housing, diseases and training steer along with questions about 4-H.
Competing in the Novice Division were Rosalee Bell, Washington, who placed first, and Lucy Angell, South Royalton, who came in second.
In the Experienced Division, Lily Larocque, Randolph Center, captured first, followed by her sister, Lydia, who was second. Matthew Whitney, Chelsea, was third.
4-H staff and parents stepped out of their comfort zone to take part in their own round to experience what the competition is like for youth participants. By competing, they also gained a better understanding of the competition's format and rules to help 4-H members prepare for future quiz bowls.
Matt Angell, South Royalton, came in first, followed by UVM Extension 4-H Educator Molly McFaun (second); Terri Chamberlin, Pomfret (third); Crystal Larocque, Randolph Center (fourth); and Tiffany Bell, Washington (fifth).
