Geoff earned his Bachelor of Music in Composition from the Hartt School of Music, where he studied jazz guitar with Richard Goldstein, clarinet with Jonathan Cohler, and composition with David Macbride, Stephen Gryc, Kenneth Steen, and Robert Carl.

Geoff leads the Geoff Kim Organ Trio, which infuses the classic organ trio format with a fresh, dynamic mix of jazz, funk, and blues.  Their 2024 debut album was praised by Seven Days Magazine as “a triumphant, sonically adventurous and downright killer album,” while Jazz Journal described it as featuring “meticulously crafted compositions and arrangements with some sensitive, skilful playing all round.”

He also directs the Cuban/Brazilian ensemble Guagua, which has released three critically acclaimed albums, including Pan Frito, named “the local jazz album of the year” by Seven Days Magazine.

As a teacher, Geoff has taught a wide range of styles including jazz, classical, world/Latin, rock/pop, country, and metal. He has developed and taught courses at the Castleton University Center for Schools, such as K-Pop: Korean Popular Music and Culture and Social Protest and Popular Music. He also spent over 13 years teaching at Centerpoint School, a therapeutic-alternative school for youth with social, behavioral, and academic challenges.
