This year's 6th annual Faculty Scholarship Concert, a performance by music and dance faculty to benefit student scholarships, falls almost exactly on the 40th anniversary of the Music Building Recital Hall and Fisk Organ.
The music building was dedicated on February 22, 1976 with a recital by Fenner Douglass of Duke University. He played the new organ, which was designed by Charles Fisk, William Metcalf (then-chair of the music department), and college organist James Chapman. The dedication piece was Louis Marchand's "Grand Dialogue in C."
Two weeks of recitals followed the dedication ceremony, including performances by the department’s Brass Quintet, Wind Quintet, String Quartet University Choir, Choral Union, Orchestra, Faculty Woodwind Quintet, Baroque Ensemble, Concert Band, Stage Band, and Madrigal Choir.
We will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Music Building's dedication with our annual Faculty Scholarship Concert on Sunday, February 21st at 3:00 PM in the Music Building Recital Hall. Admission is by donation (any amount). All proceeds benefit department music scholarships. The program includes:
