Program Overview
Health and Society Program faculty and students examine the many ways in which human health, healing practices, and health care are defined, perceived, and enacted. In addition, the program explores ways in which access to health and health care are distributed, within and across populations. The health and society minor requires a total of 18 credits as outlined below, with at least nine credits at the 100-level or above. Courses must be taken from the list provided by the health and society major program.
Can I count credits toward a major and a minor in health and society?
Students majoring in health and society cannot also pursue a minor in the same field.
Can I use the same courses to earn credits in my major and the health and society minor?
No more than one course may overlap between a student’s major and minor. Students pursuing the health sciences major, the global health concentration in the anthropology major, and/or the health and healing track in the environmental studies major should be especially mindful of this rule.
If pursuing an anthropology major, anthropology courses used for the health and society minor are included in the 45-credit major rule. If pursuing an environmental studies major, environmental studies courses used for the health and society minor are included in the 45-credit major rule.
In taking intermediate and/or upper-level courses, health and society minors need to be mindful of prerequisites and plan accordingly.
Health and science minors are encouraged to discuss their minor with both the health and science minor advisor and their major advisor to tailor their plan of study to fit their particular strengths and interests.
