Alum mentoring UVM student

Our programs provide a strong liberal arts education enhanced by significant cross-cultural and linguistic competence, skills that serve our graduates well in a wide variety of careers. Students who major in Global Studies learn to see complex connections through systemic and holistic thinking.

Global Studies graduates have gone on to pursue advanced degrees and successful careers in fields including international business and consulting; international non-profit organizations specializing in issues like environment; health, population, and food; the foreign service and other government agencies; policy analysis; research; print and broadcast journalism; the Peace Corps and other international development organizations; higher education; and social activism throughout the U.S. and the world.

Because of the broad interdisciplinary focus of the College of Arts and Sciences undergraduate program, global studies majors are equipped with a broad range of transferable skills, enabling them to succeed in any profession.

    Bringing the World to Vermont

Katie Hickey ’17 found a job directly related to her career goals at the Vermont Council on World Affairs (VCWA) where she works as a program associate. She’s directly applying the skills she developed as a global studies major and an English minor. “The ability to craft a proposal and organize a project to meet deadlines call on the writing and critical thinking skills that I learned and experienced at UVM.” VCWA aims to “bring the world to Vermont and Vermont to the world” through education and engagement. She feels fortunate to have a job that engages in international diplomacy through international leadership exchanges and cultural education programs.
